The Death and Rebirth of Vampire: Bloodlines | Retrohistories
In 2004, Activision released a buggy, broken mess of an RPG. It sold very poorly. That should have been the end of it.
It wasn't.

One of the first reusable game engines came from an unexpected quarter: a group of British software engineers working in the research arm of a Japanese camera company. Interesting and informative video well done, sir. 👍Just a creative comment regarding presentation though; there are too many text walls with the actor's VO. This style repeats itself constantly throughout and can make viewing a little laborious. Sorry but I'm actually a film editor. 😉

The irony of us hardcore gamers saying that our media is completely different from movies because it allows you to engage directly with the action using your own free will to change the outcome of how things work, but then on the same breath, we also say that violent video games have no effect on us at all whatsoever. Both of these cannot be true. What if my parents never let me play GTA when I was 8 years old and I would binge vice city for 12 hours straight? Maybe I'd be more normal

I remember playing Might and Magic III - Isles of Terra on my old PC when I was in high school and really falling in love with it. We were fortunate enough to be one of the few people with a Roland LAPC-I soundcard, and the soundtrack was just amazing on that compared to the FM synth of your typical Soundblaster card.

Thank you for actually covering the REGULAR might and magic series. You dare to speak the words Might and Magic and all people every spout is Heroes, heroes, HEROES of Might and Magic II. I get that it was a good game, but I don't see the same masterpiece in the series others do. Frankly I tried HOMM 1 and couldn't get that into it(yes, I KNOW, HOMM2 was a lot better) but no one ever talks about the DND ripoffs that started it all. I LOVE the regular Might and Magic series and I have spent whole days across many of the titles and while I have never beaten any of the one of them, I have still frequently revisit them and I always have a good time. They have some of the best character creations of any DND-like games I've ever played, I spent a ton of time in 7, less in 6 but I still loved it, and I even love MM 1 with it quite possibly the one I have played the most of. While the combat of 1 and 2 was technically inferior to say Pool of Radiance and Curse of the Azure Bonds with their actual grids, the normal interface was much smoother(for me, at least). I love the standard MM so much and they are such classic games. It's so tragic that such a gigantic franchise was the victim of rushed entries and ultimately fell by the wayside. TBH I feel like a lot of "smaller" franchises rose and fell unfairly during this time, as if someone got a hold of them who wanted them to fail. While it's easy to suggest that agents of the actual DND(for example) had a hand in this, and for all we know it may have considering it showed them up in some regards, this seemed to be the case of a lot of similar franchises of the time, both for DND like games and others. It just seems to me like some powerful force in the media hates actual creativity and blights it at every turn. So whether DND itself played a hand or not it just seems to be a symptom of a larger problem.

I'll never buy an Activision game again. Some of the shite they've released - knowingly broken. Even warzone mobile, with 11 different dev houses working on it, and it being out a year in som territories, was a broken, buggy, laggy steaming turd when i downloaded it, so this video doesn't surprise me.

One of my favorite games of all time. I discovered it, all the way back in the early 2010's, as a high schooler. Already there were unofficial patches for the game, but I had no idea. I ran it raw, and while it was messy and needed lots of help, I still had a decent time. With the UP it just became glorious. Running a Clan Quest Mod playthrough at the moment and honestly, VTMB is a cultural icon and a monument to over two decades of hard work and passion, by devs and modders. It's aesthetics and themes practically define my personal tastes and fashion nowadays. I doubt any devs or modders will ever see this comment, but I did want to share my enthusiasm and thanks. It was, and is, amazing.
